Greg Head
New Avenue
In the last 20 years in software and technology business, nothing has been more rewarding to me than creating great businesses with great people. I was fortunate to be part of the startup and growth stages of two great companies that have since created over $1 billion in total revenue in the CRM software industry – ACT! and SalesLogix. (I was an early employee at ACT! and I was one of the co-founders of SalesLogix.)
For over 10 years I worked with serial entrepreneur and founder of ACT! and SalesLogix, Pat Sullivan. He and I have done many other things after and in between, but no other entrepreneurial adventures have rivaled the thrill of going from zero to $100 million in revenue, creating great products and global brands, and working with incredible people. Both of these businesses were successfully acquired by larger software companies (Symantec and Sage) where I spent more years leading these teams and brands as part of these larger public companies.
I have envisioned, executed, managed and led all parts of a technology business, from President to CMO/VP of Marketing, to Product Management and Sales, where I started. I have also worked in the security software business for PatchLink (renamed Lumension Security), launched a Flash content management software startup called Flypaper, and worked many other startups as an advisor and consultant. To find out more about my background, see my profile on LinkedIn.
I believe that in order for a company to “do great marketing” and be wildly successful, three elements are required: great products or services, a sound business model and a compelling marketing strategy. Marketing does not exist separate from the product or the business strategies – they need to work together and become the single vision of the leaders. When you get these working together and “right enough,” your people can execute great things and your business can achieve incredible success.
I am an angel investor in several Arizona startups and a member of the advisory board for many technology companies. I live in Scottsdale, Arizona with my wife and two children. On weekends I enjoy hiking, golf, and skiing with my friends and family, but mostly I enjoy starting tech companies and helping other entrepreneurs achieve their dreams.
